TONGUE TIE
Tongue tie otherwise called “ankyloglossia” is a structural abnormality of the lingual frenum. When the lingual frenum is normal it allows the full movement of the tongue to even extend and touch the palate, which is required to pronounce certain letters, but when the fibrous bands under the tongue is not freed as in “tongue tie” function, feeding and speech is affected. Tongue tie can be released surgically and with the use of lasers in dentistry-the work has become a day care procedures with minimal morbidity and maximal patient comfort.
